Oh, hey there friends. Fancy seeing you here ;)

Hmm, it would seem that it has been a little long while, eh? September/October were jammed packed for us.  Perhaps a quick recap to bring you up to speed would be in order.

  • Vivi had surgery to correct her lip and tongue tie. It went well, the results are astonishing and I really wish it had been done when we dealt with the FTT.ugh.
  • Hand,Foot,and Mouth. Ugh.
  • Apparently, despite what we were told, Lucy can sort of vomit. It was scary, EMS was called. It was too similar to that scary night last December. Zofran fixed her up temporarily. I love Zofran, a lot. Turns out all three girls had a never ending stomach bug.Ugh.
  • Halloween was awesome. Max & The Wild Things won a costume contest at Barnes & Noble and scored some great prizes.  I loved creating their Halloween look and had some awesome custom hats made by a lovely, very talented friend over at Adair to Crochet. Check her out and let her know I sent you! Vivi helped hand out candy at our church's Trunk N Treat with me to over 4,000 people. That little lady has the sweetest, biggest heart. This is going to become a yearly tradition for us.

So, those are the biggest parts Notice the liberal use of "ugh". Add in some random other colds, teething, etc. We missed an entire month of therapy between surgeries and sickness. Ooops. Hopefully, fingers crossed we will be back at it this Friday.

The Wild Things are almost 14 months now and learning how to get into more stuff every day.  When people ask what it is like I tell them it was easier when they were newborns. Back then, you fed them, changed them, and snuggled. You would have 3-4 where you could get things done. Now, not so much. I get 5 minute spurts to do things, and by do things I mean frantically clean one mess while they make approximately 3832 more messes. I do not understand how that happens, but I assure you it does on the daily.  Betsy is getting close to walking, in fact if she had some confidence she could do it. Lucy isn't too far behind her. Lucy is into climbing though. In and out of everything. Her specialty is waiting for me to turn my head and then attempting to climb out of her high chair.

Vivi is at the awesome stage where she is just so, so fun. I love to hear her accounts of her day at preschool. She is loving it at school, and has made some sweet little friendships. She is so opinionated on everything from what she wants to wear, to what she wants to eat, to songs she likes. It is awesome to see her developing such a quirky, spunky personality.

So, that sufficiently catches you up. I will leave you with some super cute pictures that have already been appropriately shown off, but hey they are cute.

Happy Birthday, babies

My babies are one...

how did that happen?

This post could potentially be pretty long, this year sure was in some ways. Consider yourself warned.

I don't even really know where to begin, aside from the obvious choice, the beginning. To keep things somewhat brief in this post, I'll save the pregnancy and detailed birth story for some other time. But anyhow, September 19th, 2012 our girls made their entrance at 7:58 & 7:59 am. This year has been both long and short. Looking at the girls' preemie clothes that were big on them at birth, it now seems impossible they were ever that tiny.

The girls have accomplished so much in their first year. We've been through hospitalizations, surgeries, countless specialists visits, therapies, the list goes on. Through it all, those sweet girls have worked so hard to learn, grow, and meet their milestones, sometimes on their own timeline, but always with determination.

I am extremely proud of how strong my little Lucy is. Things have not come as easy for her, but she works extra hard to learn the task at hand and overcome difficulties. We have an extra special bond that has developed over time at all of these extra appointments and procedures. She is a total mama's girl, and I won't lie, I eat it up. Lucy loo, never give up that determination sweet girl. You can and will accomplish anything you set your mind to. I love you sweet girl.

Betsy boo is such a sweet, loving, happy girl. She has always been the more relaxed of the Wild Things. She is so tender hearted and so smart. She loves to give kisses, even unsolicited ones. I really enjoy how easy things are with her. Betsy baby, keep that sweetness, and tender heart. You are a lover and a people person. The world is yours baby girl. I love you.

I can't imagine what great things the future holds for the Wild Things. They are awesome girls and make my heart so, so happy. I wouldn't trade those early nights of being up with two little girls every 2-3 hours for anything. I am so lucky and so blessed to be the mama to such wonderful girls.

  Happy Birthday my sweet girls.

The problem with a blog is...

It's best updated from a computer. So, naturally as soon as I got my blog up and going and was starting to get into it every single piece of technology I owned revolted.

Sort of funny how that works out. If you know me at all, you know I have notoriously bad luck, especially with gizmos, and gadgets, and without a doubt any time I decide to start something new. So, for now I'm using the app from my phone, which is ok,but the computer is much better.

Anywho, I've got a few updates I'd like to make a proper entry of,so hopefully I can get to a real computer this weekend. The oldest Wild Thing began preschool last week, and the littler Wild Things are too quickly approaching their first birthday. So, lots of exciting happenings to write about.

Until then,

There's something really cool about having twins

It's no secret that being the mama of twins brings extra work with it. Double the diaper changes, feedings, meltdowns. But, there's some pretty awesome special things that come with twins, too.

I don't think that the simple matter of there being two babies will ever not amaze me. Two babies! There were two babies growing in my belly, all squished up,forming a life long connection. They loved to be squished together after birth too. No matter how far apart you put them, they'd wiggle up next to each other. How sweet is that?

Something else I love is how they are so alike, yet so different. Being identical, they naturally look alike, yet there are many differences when you study them. Betsy is a few pounds heavier than Lucy, and their face and heads are shaped differently. It's all subtle things that make them unique.

I also love the personality differences which are emerging every day. Betsy is more laid back, and easy going. She just needs the basics to keep her happy. Lucy is a bit more demanding, and rightfully so,after all she has been through. She craves being closer to mama to know everything is ok. She's also not afraid to let you know if things aren't to her liking, and loudly at that.

Those days when I have two fussy babies (and maybe even a fussy toddler for good measure) and I'm counting down the minutes until bed time don't hold a flame to those moments when I catch them interacting, strengthening that special bond,or when two little faces that look so much alike look up and smile at me. Those moments make all the extra work worth it.

Things my two year old says

We all know kids say the darnedest things.

So, what silly things have been heard here lately?

It's no secret that Vivi is both very clever and sassy. Every time her mouth opens, I fully expect some sentiment to laugh and marvel over. How exactly does she come up with these things? There's something so fascinating about this stage when her sense of humor is being developed as well as new phrases being added and tested out daily.

Ways to get out of a dinner that you just don't want to eat no matter how many tricks mama has up her sleeve; " I can't eat it right now, my mouth isn't working!"  Well then, I can't argue with a broken mouth.

Things she has picked up in passing? Try "Hun", courtesy of her daddy. "Hey hun, I want my cup." "Check it out,Hun!" "That's so cool,Hun!" Hearing "hun" from a pint sized chatter box will make you laugh every time, I promise.

Then there is the dramatic "Stop it! Ouch! Don't hurt me!" thrown at you from across the room at the mere mention of something she does not find pleasing. Bedtime? "No! Don't hurt me!" Clean up your toys? "Ouch! Stop it!" That one is sure to garner some looks sooner or later. I can just see it now - a meltdown in the grocery store when I say "no" to some random request. Cue the sad sounding "Don't hurt me!" I can only imagine the looks I'll get. Oh my.

Finally, one of my favorite new tactics of hers: trying to reason with us. Nap time? "I'll take a nap on the couch/stairs/etc." Two year olds are actually really good at negotiations. Don't look them in the eye, don't show your fear, they will win every time.

What are your littles saying these days? Any good ones to share?

We love you so.
